Adventuring into the world of PLNs

Hi all! After diving into the world of Professional Learning Networks (PLN) and conducting thorough research, I've discovered numerous benefits associated with having a PLN. I am certainly planning to expand my PLN, particularly on social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest.

I found the insights shared by guest speaker Laurie MacIntosh to be particularly enlightening. Her discussion on social media and its positive impact on teaching resonated with me. Macintosh emphasized the importance of creating a sense of community among students, educators, and possibly even families through technology. She highlighted Twitter as a tool for expressing strong thoughts, sharing teaching philosophies, and fostering a sense of community. Macintosh shared a personal anecdote about how her Twitter presence served as a portfolio, leading to a job opportunity.

Another noteworthy point Macintosh made was regarding Instagram's potential to provide an affirming community for educators. She views Instagram as a platform where educators can seek motivation and creativity when developing lessons and activities. Macintosh advocates for increased collaboration among educators, not just within one's district but potentially spanning provinces and even countries.

One of the key takeaways for me was Macintosh's emphasis on leveraging the community to create enjoyable experiences for students. I firmly believe that fostering a love for learning and making school enjoyable is crucial and can be done so with the help of your community. I am looking forward to doing so in my own practice. So many ideas came to mind when she brought up this topic.

However, I acknowledge the challenge of establishing boundaries with students and their parents. I am confident that by utilizing private settings and drawing on my experience, I can navigate and maintain these boundaries effectively.
